Slot Machines are the simplest form of gambling out there – or are they?
There's a reason that slot machines take up most of the floor space of most bricks and mortar casinos (and are located by the doors). They are easy to play, a lot of fun, and oh so tempting. They are also very profitable for the casinos. On the internet, most casinos have a lot of slot machine options and heavily promote them for much the same reasons.
Slot machines are very simple for all their fancy graphics, multiline play, you put your money in, pull the lever – although even in reel (sorry) life these days pressing a button is becoming the only way of playing – and watch it spin. It will tell you if you have won or not, and then you repeat the process until your money is gone, your time is up, or you've won a big jackpot and need to go spend it on limo rides and strippers (or whatever your idea of a good time is).
So, are there any secrets to playing slots? Well, no… and yes.
There are no secrets to slots riches, despite what some snake-oil salesmen claim. You can quite safely ignore their claims (in fact, you can quite safely ignore the claims of anyone who uses lots of exclamation marks or high-pressure sales phrases).
However, there are a few "secrets" to maximising your return from slots. They're more a matter of common sense and experience than any great insight.
- Always play the maximum number of coins on a multi coin machine (even if you have to play at a smaller limit) this gives you a much better payout when you hit. In the real world, larger denomination machines often have a slightly better payout rate overall (making it worthwhile to play less than max-coin), but this is the internet, and I have seen no evidence of that trend.
- Look for the "biggest" progressive jackpot – by that I mean the one that is largest compared to the amount you have to pay to play it. It slightly increases your expected payout. Plus, if you're going to dream, you may as well dream big.
- Look for the casino with the biggest payout percentage. The payout percentage I've been quoting in my reviews gives you a very good idea. If there's enough demand, I will try and work out the best slot games on the internet, and include slot specific payouts in my reviews.
- Always make sure you enroll in the casino's loyalty program. Some Internet casinos have crazy-generous reward programs. Even the more average ones are good for a bit of cashback, and maybe some extra bonuses.
Well, there you have it, a little bit of slot machine advice.
